Over the last couple of weeks I decided to tackle, clean out and get rid of stuff! Its amazing how much stuff you can collect from having 4 kids in the house. Its crazy. I feel like my house is busting with stuff. One area we have been working on is the girls play room or should I say Play NOOK! Its not much of a playroom. Its a small corner of the basement that houses all their crafty bits and some dolls and toys. We have dumped every single bin. I am still sorting through pencil crayons, doll shoes that don’t have mates. The girls craft supplies are in need of some help. My girls love to craft.
We had an IKEA system with bins and an old shelving unit. But even with the shelving unit and bins it was getting cramped so I decided to come up with a new idea. I can’t wait show you our shelving unit we created with barn board and plumber’s piping. Yes you heard me right, we got our supplies from the plumbing section of Home Depot. I am just waiting for David to cut the barn board down. I should have that post very soon.
While I’m waiting for David to cut the barn board for me, I decided to find ways to decorate the shelves, I wanted to add a little greenery to the space. In a kids playroom nook I needed something that would need little maintenance and what better plant to plant is succulents. We needed some cute planters for a playroom so here is how we did it on the cheap.
Things you need:
- Terracotta clay pots (dollar store had them $1)
- Acrylic pant any colour
- Bulls Eye 1,2,3 Primer
- paint brushes
- Lacquer (I found the one in a spray can one the best)
- Thin black markers
- Painters Tape
I painted the terracotta pots in the Bulls Eye 1,2,3 primer
I then wrapped painted tape around 4 inches from the bottom of the pot and painted the bottom the colour I wanted.
Then when the paint had dried I painted the rest in white. I took them outside and gave them a couple of coats of lacquer to give the paint protection.
I found these cute little succulents at our local garden centre, Eising’s
After school Erin planting all the flowers for me.
Erin said the succulents make them look like they have hair.
