Its hard to believe that in less than a month summer will be considered over and the kids will be back to a regular routine. Back to School! Shall I say “its the most wonderful time of the year!!” just kidding!! I have one child out of the 4 who is sooo excited about this that she has already researched and printed out her back to school list. Secretly an office store is one of my favourite places to shop. With all the excitement of visiting office supply stores, it really has got me in the mood to de-clutter, organize and decorate my office. Its been a space in our home that has had the least attention. Last time I shredded any paper or painted any walls was back, lets say 2005?
I’m terrified to show you the before..
Yikes! Oak! Over the long weekend I went to work, sanding and painting the cabinets. I new I wanted the freshen up the space and lighten in up. I am in a in the basement, so light fresh colour scheme is a must. White cabinets here we go! While waiting in between coats for the paint to dry, I made up a mood board.
What do you think? I am so excited to have a place in the house that is mine. I don’t think the colours are too overly girly! I can let my husband use the office space once in a while and he wont feel like he is in a girly parlour somewhere. He He!
My favourite paint to use when painting any kind of furniture is Behr’s Aldyd Semi-Gloss Enamel paint. I love the hard durable finish and it self levels. I use a good primer and do a light sanding. In between waiting for paint to dry, I had Netflix to keep me company on the computer.
I plan on organizing the space a bit more, maybe alot more! I would like to find a more permanent home for my printer, paper shredder. Maybe not so in eye view?
It took up most of my weekend and I still have some touch ups to do. But already, I love the way the office feels. So light and bright. I don’t mind spending my time downstairs in the dreary basement!
Before and after again:
The list of to do:
- Fix some of the cupboards (over time some drawers broke and came off their track!) and finish painting them.
- Purchase new cupboard door knobs
- Give the walls a new fresh coat of paint
- Find a hide-a-way storage for printer and paper shredder
- Find bookcases to refinish
- Find a way to demolish paper clutter. (wouldn’t that be nice!)
